The Nursery Manager writes…
May was a special month because we celebrated the tenth anniversary of Highwood Nursery moving from Highwood Road in Brockenhurst to the main campus at Brockenhurst College. Since relocating, there have been many success stories and a lot of financial investment, plus significant growth. Here’s to the next ten years…

VE Day
Owls children enjoyed watching a parade by Uniformed Protective Services students, which formed part of Brockenhurst College’s wider VE Day celebrations. The children had earlier been busy making flags, which they waved proudly.
Tea party to celebrate ten years at Brock
Children, parents, nursery staff and senior college leaders gathered at the nursery recently for a tea party marking ten years since the nursery moved from Highwood Road, Brockenhurst, to Brock’s main campus. The event was organised by Highwood’s Deputy Childcare Manager, Claire Venables, who has worked at the nursery for over 20 years. Some of the older children made bunting especially for the occasion.
Preparing for school
Owls staff are doing their utmost to prepare children for school. Therefore, please let the Owls team know if you have any concerns. They will do their best to provide support in any way they can. If you have not already done so, please inform the office of your child’s last day at nursery.
New 30-hours funding allotment
The new 30-hours funding allotment will lock into place from September for eligible families. If you are already in receipt of funding, you do not need to do anything other than complete a new form. This form will be handed out in due course. Please also remember to reconfirm your eligibility every three months to ensure we can continue to claim. You can find more information at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
Visit from College Nurse
The College Nurse visited Owls as part of International Nurses Day recently. The children sat and listened intently to what the nurse had to say. She talked about what bandages are for and also talked about burns and taking temperatures. The children were then able to look at and touch the equipment she had brought in her First Aid bag. Finally, the children practised bandaging each other and listened to each other’s heartbeat using a stethoscope.
