Pre-School 3 – 5 years

We can accommodate up to 24 children in our Owls area. Owls children are aged between three and five. Using both indoor and outdoor spaces we provide a variety of exciting activities to support learning. The staffing ratio for this group is 1:8. Staff in this room are focused on ensuring the children have the skills to support them in moving up to school, becoming independent and school-ready.

Stimulating activities

The staffing ratio for the Owls group is 1:8. Staff plan a variety of stimulating activities around the Highwood Curriculum, which has seven main areas of learning. These comprise communication and language, literacy, mathematics, physicality, knowledge, expressive arts, and personal, social and emotional development.

We have a large outside area with an AstroTurf section, a bark section, and a large concrete area with a sandpit and room for bikes, trikes and ball games.

Learning & Development

At Highwood Nursery we follow our own curriculum to support each child.

  • With the understanding that every child is unique, constantly learning and developing.
  • We build positive relationships so children can learn to be strong and independent.
  • We provide enabling environments in which children’s experiences respond to their individual needs.
  • We facilitate learning and development with the understanding that children develop in different ways and at different rates.

Importantly, we maintain an awareness that some children may have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
