The Nursery Manager writes…
Hello and welcome to our November roundup of all the goings on at Highwood Nursery. Please be aware that now is the time of year when we see a lot of illness in the setting. If your child is unwell and/or requires Calpol, please keep them at home. They can return 24 hours after they start to feel better following a high temperature. We appreciate your ongoing cooperation in this matter to help prevent the spread of infection to other children and members of staff. Please ensure you have up-to-date contact details registered on Famly so we have someone we can contact if your child becomes unwell. Each child should have at least two contacts, but ideally three.

Staff updates
Erin has completed her apprenticeship here at Highwood and will be leaving us at Christmas to start her career in the NHS. Meanwhile, Chloe will be moving to the Bunnies room as a permanent staff member, and we have two new staff members joining us in January. Jonathan, who is currently a Brock student, will be working as a practitioner around his studies. We also have Megan, who is joining us after spending a year travelling and teaching English to children at a school in Indonesia.
Christmas parties
Each room will be holding a Christmas party with Father Christmas visiting – please keep an eye out for dates and times on the Famly newsfeed.
Christmas dinner
We will be serving a roast chicken Christmas dinner on Wednesday 11 December for children who have a hot lunch at the Nursery. This will comprise: Merry Chicken and Gravy, Comet’s Crispy Potatoes, Ho Ho Horange & Thyme Carrots and Parsnips, and Santa Claus Cheesy Cauliflower.
Diwali
The children enjoyed celebrating Diwali recently. They made lanterns, created Diwali patterns and enjoyed a Diwali themed lunch.
Firework activities
Lots of children were excited to tell us about the fireworks they saw during the week of November 5. They learned about firework safety through messy play, mixing gloop together in various colours and making firework paintings.
Halloween
Halloween saw the children enjoy lots of messy play and pumpkin carving.
