Highwood staff take the greatest care in providing a warm and welcoming environment.

We can accommodate 21 children in the Pre-school group. We aim to ensure that children will spend their final year before going to school in this group and work with a variety of local schools and teachers to support transition into the Reception class.

Variety of exciting and stimulating activities.

The staffing ratio for this group is 1:8. Our staff plan plan a variety of exciting and stimulating activities around the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which has seven main areas of learning: Communication & Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Physical, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Expressive Arts & Design, Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

In all areas of the nursery, we track children's progress to ensure relevant support is provided to make sure all children reach their potential.

We have a large outside area with an astro turf section, a bark section for exploring and a large concrete area with a sand pit and enough room for bikes, trikes and ball games.

    Learning & Development

By utilising the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and it's four Themes and Principals:

We can support the Unique Child where every child is unique, constantly learning and developing, they can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.

By building positive relationships so children can learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

Providing enabling environments where children can learn and develop, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers.

Children will learn and develop in different ways.

The framework supports the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. We believe very strongly that every child is unique, an individual and different, and deserves the best possible start in life. By building strong positive relationships with parents and carers, professionals and key staff within the setting, we will be able to create an exciting and enabling environment where your child will learn and develop naturally enabling them to fulfil their full potential.
