Highwood has become a first choice childcare provider for local community children.

    Nutkins (18 months - 2.5 years)

We can accommodate 16 children between 18 months - 2.5 years in this part of the Nursery. The children have free flow access to the outside of their main playroom with the rest of the nursery. Where they can explore the garden, play on bikes and trikes, paint, enjoy water play or just sit quietly on the astro turf and read a book.

The staffing ratios within the main nursery are 1:3 for the 18 months - 2 year olds and 1:4 for the 2-3 years plus.

    Squirrels (2 years - 3.5 years)

We can accommodate up to 20 children in this room with staff working on a 1:4 ratio. Staff provide a variety of stimulating activities both inside and outside that will help your child learn and develop, enabling them to reach their potential.

The children have access to a child friendly toilet area for when they are ready to start potty training and should they still need an afternoon nap, they are welcome to join other children who sleep in the Nutkin room which is transformed into a sleep area from round 12.30 to 2.30pm.

    Learning

Children develop and learn in different ways. The EYFS framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. A variety of activities will be provided through our continuous provision each day that will encourage your child to learn and develop. These will be planned purposeful play opportunities, both adult led and child initiated.

    Play

Play opportunities are offered that are enjoyable, age and stage appropriate and promote personal social and emotional development, physical development, communication and language, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, expressive arts and design.

Staff will be guided by the different ways in which children learn when planning activities:
Playing and exploring - children will investigate and explore things.
Active learning - children keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements.
Creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, making links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.

By working closely with parents we can ensure your child is provided with appropriate activities to enable them to reach their full potential.
